Petra was born and raised in a rural community of western Kenya. He completed his B.A. in Nairobi and his graduate work in Vancouver, Canada (MCS from Regent College, UBC). He works as a Financial Planner with a major investment firm.
Since 2004, he has returned to Kenya every summer to work in various areas of development in his home region of Muhanda. Annually, as one of three leaders, he has led university travel study programs that give students experience in field research and involvement in applied projects.
Petra has continued working with the Muhanda community that has now benefited from the successful completion of two projects: the Mulele Heath Centre and the Muhanda Water Project. Both projects demonstrated successful project completion and cooperation at all levels of government in a public-private partnership.
As the Director of Hands-On Development Initiatives International Society, Petra brings to the Stronach Family Foundation a direct link to the Muhanda community and the projects the Foundation supports.
Current projects Petra oversees include: (1) upgrading the Mulele Health Centre to a maternity facility and eventually a proposed Women’s and Children’s Hospital; (2) building a Community Centre that meets the needs of pre-school children identified as vulnerable and orphaned; and (3) providing micro-loans enabling families to start or expand small-scale businesses.
